FAQ

How long does a portrait take to complete?

This will depend on the size and complexity of the artwork and the time of year. I do get rather busy in the lead up to Christmas. I also have several shows and exhibitions scheduled in Spring and Autumn. Advanced booking will be essential if you require your portrait to be finished for the festive season. I will endeavour to complete the artwork a week before any set deadline to allow plenty of time for any gift wrapping!

When is payment due?
Once the commissioned piece is complete and you are satisfied with the work, then I will ask for payment.
You may place a small deposit if you wish, but it is not necessary as I trust my patrons!

What kind of photos do you need?
I need several bright and sharp photos of your subject. If you can send over images of your pet in different poses and environments, that will be invaluable. I can only draw as well as the reference material allows.
I can only draw as well as the reference photos provided. Please read my fiancée’s Photography How To Guide for hints and tips.
If you can, select one or two photos that you would really love me to draw from and few more to give me an idea of the character and temperament of the animal.

Can you draw two or more pets in the same portrait?
Yes, of course I can. Just send over good quality images of each of your subjects and we can go from there. Please note, the animals do not need to be in the same photo, separate images are acceptable.

I don’t live in the UK, can you ship overseas?
Yes, I can. International shipping will be by individual arrangement and there may be additional costs involved. Please allow an extra 2 to 3 weeks for your artwork to arrive, so it will be wise to allow plenty of extra time when booking your portrait. Get in touch and I will give you an estimated price.

Do you paint other subjects other than animals?
Yes, I have dabbled with landscapes and botanicals, but most of the time I draw pets and wildlife. If you have a special request, please get in touch and I will see what I can do to accommodate your wishes.

You’re a coloured pencil artist, do you use any other medium?
Well, I used to paint in watercolour, but chose coloured pencil as it allowed me to increase the detail in my art. The vibrancy of the colours is outstanding with modern pencils and I am much happier with this medium when compared to watercolour.
Occasionally though, I do use ink for embellishing detail.
